Registration will begin February 1, 2025. Priority registration will be given to existing families until March 1, 2025. Class tuition and fees for the 2025-2026 year include a non-refundable registration fee of $50 (or $70 for a family) and $500 for the year, which can be paid monthly in ten payments of $50.
Minimum class size is seven students. Courses that do not have the minimum number of enrollments will be dropped. Maximum class size twelve students. Once a class is full, I will place students on a waitlist. No registration fees are deposited until you are certain you have a spot in the class.
Courses will meet in-person at my home in Geneva unless otherwise noted. For families who are a bit further away, carpooling may be an option. I also have 20 acres, a porch, and a separate silent study space in the house (emphasis on the “silent”) if you would like to stay during class.
If you are interested in any course, please complete a registration form and send it to me with your registration fee. Keep in mind that I do not reserve a spot for a student unless I have a completed registration form and a registration fee.

Beginning IEW Year 1 – New students grades 4-6 or instructor permission

This beginning course takes students new to IEW through the basic structural units, while introducing stylistic techniques incrementally. The foundational material will be IEW’s Discoveries in Writing. Grammar will be the Fix-it Grammar program by Pamela White. (Fix-it 2: Town Mouse and Country Mouse) Students need to purchase just the student book.
Beginning IEW Year 2 Pre-requisite: 1 year of IEW or instructor permission For students grade 5-7, or new students 6-8. CLASS FULL
Tuesdays 9:00-10:45
This course takes students continues the skills introduced in Beginning Year. Students will work through the IEW structural units with a bit more sophistication, while introducing stylistic techniques incrementally. The foundational material is Ancient History Based Writing Lessons by IEW. Grammar will be the Fix-it Grammar program by Pamela White (available through IEW). (Fix-it 3:Robin Hood) Students need to purchase just the student book for both writing and grammar.
Intermediate IEW Year 1: Students grades 7-9 – Suitable for students new to IEW (especially in grades 8 or 9) CLASS FULL

This course takes students through the nine structural units, with emphasis on essay writing, all while deepening skills using the various stylistic techniques. The foundational material will be IEW’s Structure and Style for Students year 1B, with supplemental lessons to round out the year. Students need to purchase only the student book; video DVDs or streaming are available for purchase if you tend to miss class often. Grammar will be the Fix-it Grammar program by Pamela White. (Fix-it 4: Mowgli and Shere Khan) All submitted work must be typed.
Intermediate IEW Year 2: Students grades 7-10 Prior IEW required or instructor permission.

University Ready Writing Lessons with Literature: Students grades 11-12 with minimum 1 year IEW experience and instructor consent. TWO SPOTS REMAINING
Wednesdays 3:00-4:30 (Online)
For writing, students will learn effective note-taking strategies as they write précis (summaries) and essays. The coursework tackles assignments of varying length, honing the mental skills of reducing and assimilating information. With tips and tools for writing an abstract, creating and arranging content, citing sources, applying various style guides, using literary devices, and writing on-demand essays, this curriculum will prepare your students for university writing assignments. For the literature component, student will work through reading and analyzing three novels and then writing analysis essays to demonstrate understanding.
